Kathmandu: The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has announced disciplinary action against cricketer star Sandeep Lamichhane.
Sandeep made an unexpected decision to not play 45 minutes before the first match of the Test series between the West Indies in UAE, which led to disciplinary measures by CAN.
CAN's secretary, Paras Khadka, issued a statement explaining the reasons behind Sandeep's decision to sit out the game. The series between Nepal and the Test nation West Indies was held from September 27 to 30, and Nepal won the title.
CAN stated that Sandeep's sudden decision had a serious impact on the team management, players, and the entire Nepali cricket community. Based on the team management's recommendation, Sandeep Lamichhane has been suspended for the remaining matches of the series, as well as the entire duration of the series.
With Sandeep's suspension, the Nepali team is now focusing on the upcoming ICC Men's T20 World Cup Asia/EAP Final, which will be held in Oman from October 8 to 17. This tournament is a key target for the Nepali team, as their aim is to win and secure a place in the 2026 T20 World Cup. The Nepali team has already departed for Oman from the UAE.
The 16-member Nepali squad is expected to represent the country with pride and honor in Oman. The association has emphasized that full support and unity from all are crucial in this decisive campaign to open the door for the World Cup.
