Kathmandu – Former Prime Minister and UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli, along with former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, and three others, have been recommended for a travel ban, including the confiscation of their passports.
The list also includes former Home Secretary Gokarn Mani Duwadi, former Chief of the National Investigation Department Hutaraj Thapa, and former Chief District Officer Chhabilal Rizal.
These individuals are being investigated for their alleged excessive use of force during the GenZ movement, and a judicial inquiry commission has imposed the travel ban. As a result, the five individuals must now seek permission from the commission if they wish to leave the Kathmandu Valley.
The commission’s decision is based on an ongoing investigation into the events of Bhadra 23 and 24, and the travel ban was imposed due to their involvement. The commission stated that the individuals concerned must be available for questioning at any time, which is why their international travel has been restricted.
This decision was made at a time when Oli was chairing a meeting of the UML Secretariat in Gundu-Bhaktpur.
Meanwhile, former Home Minister Ramesh Lekh is currently occupied with his mother's funeral rites. Both Hutaraj Thapa and Chhabilal Rizal have been removed from their respective administrative roles.
