Kathmandu — Venezuelan mothers have made an emotional appeal to U.S. First Lady Melania Trump, urging her to speak out against American deportation policies that have left many migrant children separated from their families.
In their statement, the women described the anguish of being torn from their children, who remain in the United States under harsh conditions. They denounced policies that, in their words, have “shattered families and left innocent children in a state of fear and confusion.”
The mothers posed a heartfelt question to the public: “Could you find peace not knowing where your child is? Could you sleep without knowing whether they have eaten or how they feel? We cannot live without our children close to us.”
Appealing in the name of maternal love, human dignity, and family unity, they emphasized that children should never be used as pawns in political disputes. “Every child has the right to grow up surrounded by love. Children’s rights must come before politics,” they declared.
The group addressed Melania Trump directly, recalling her past advocacy for children’s welfare. “You are a mother yourself, Mrs. Melania. We ask you to raise your voice, to help bring our children home, to be a bridge of justice and humanity,” the statement read.
They further urged that, at the very least, deportations should keep mothers and children together instead of tearing families apart. Expressing hope, the women said they still believe Melania Trump can play a role in ending their suffering: “We trust you can help create happy endings and stop this pain for our children. Free our children.”
This appeal underscores the human impact of migration policies, drawing renewed attention to family separation as an urgent humanitarian issue.
