Kathmandu – The Election Commission has approved the schedule for the upcoming election of the House of Representatives, which is set to be held on Falgun 21 (March 5, 2026).
According to the approved schedule, political parties must register for the election purposes between Mangsir 1 to 10 (November 17 to 26, 2025), the Commission stated.
In a press release issued today by the Commission’s Joint Secretary and spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, it is mentioned that offices of the election officers for the first-past-the-post (FPTP) system will be established from Magh 2 (January 16, 2026).
Similarly, election campaigning will take place from Falgun 3 to 18 (February 15 to March 2, 2026), followed by a campaign silence period until the voting day.
Voting will take place on Falgun 21 (March 5, 2026) from 7 AM to 5 PM, and the counting of votes will begin after the collection of ballot boxes from both electoral systems (FPTP and Proportional Representation).
For the proportional representation (PR) system, the offices of the election officers will be set up on Mangsir 15 (December 1, 2025), and party closed lists must be submitted on Poush 18 and 19 (January 2–3, 2026), as stated in the Commission’s press release.
The Commission also mentioned that it will hold consultations and discussions with political parties and stakeholders from time to time, as per the approved election schedule.
Only political parties that are registered with the Election Commission will be eligible to register for election purposes. Therefore, any parties wishing to participate must obtain their party registration certificate from the Commission by Kartik 30 (November 16, 2025).
